Great Graveyard Clearout!

Haugh End Lane, Sowerby Bridge

Bridge Community will continue with the work we began last year when we started to clear the completely overgrown graveyard (former St George's Church graveyard, Haugh End Lane). As we did, we discovered so many beautful gravestones and hoped a space was being created which, one day, relatives of those buried there could come and visit and the local community could enjoy. This involves chopping back brambles, pulling out weeds, removing rubbish etc. Everyone welcome to join us in putting a little bit of love back into the land! Bring gardening gloves and any tools which may be useful! There'll be cake and drinks when we've finished!

Litter picking and plogging Frampton to Arlingham and beyond.

Arlingham, Gloucester

We live in a beautiful area, with wonderful views, lovely footpaths, places to walk our dogs, go for bike rides or ride horses and ponies. We have the river Severn on our doorstep and the Gloucester/Sharpness canal nearby. Litter picking makes our environment look better, creates a safer environment for our local wildlife, prevents plastics from being broken down and entering the food chain or being washed into the river and out to sea. 80% of plastic in the oceans enters it from land waste. I am organising a community litter pick around the parish of Arlingham on Monday 8th May '23 as part of The Big Help Out 2023.

Re-vamp of our Southern Maltings Cafe to make it a Community Hub

New Road, Ware SG12 7BS

After the success of our Warm Spaces that were funded by EHDC we would like to spend Monday 8th May revamping our café that is at the moment only in minimal use. We hope to change this room and the room next door into a communal café where people of all ages can come together to meet, socialise, maybe try their hand at craft or even play some board games. It has limited use at the moment but we aim to turn it into a functioning café for all to come and enjoy 7 days a week.
We have an outside area that needs some gardening, painting and making look nice and another room next to our café that needs TLC, painting, new lights etc. If you can help we would be so appreciative.

Volunteer Open Day

Dudley Canal and Caverns, Birmingham New Road, Dudley

Come to our open day to see what volunteering with Dudley Canal and Caverns is all about. Here at Dudley Canal and Caverns we are committed to the advancement of public education in the history, economy, geology and other features of the Dudley Canal Tunnel and inland waterways.
We run narrow boat trips along the canal, into the limestone caverns underneath Dudley's Castle Hill, a unique and exciting experience for all of our visitors, volunteers and staff. We have so many areas you can get involved with; whether you have an interest in telling our stories to our visitors, enjoy working with the public and getting involved with events, or gardening, there is something for anyone who has a passion for protecting our heritage. So if something about what we do catches your eye, come and take a closer look at all the different volunteer roles we have to offer with our Volunteer Open Day!
