If you’re hosting your own public event, street party or other celebration, submit your event plans to feature on our interactive map.

You can join up with your local community in lots of ways to plan a celebration together, such as setting up a group chat or using the Nextdoor app to connect with your neighbours. Make sure you read and follow the street party guidance on GOV.UK too.

First Aid Workshop [Online]

Are you interested in learning essential, lifesaving first aid skills to help in an emergency? If so, our Virtual first aid workshop might be for you. These are interactive workshops, run by experienced British Red Cross educators, that build your confidence to help someone in a first aid emergency, using everyday objects around you. As a result of this workshop, you will learn to: perform essential first aid skills; build confidence and willingness to help in a first aid emergency; assess and manage risks to make informed choices when helping others. All you need is access to Zoom. Joining instructions will be sent nearer the time.

Befriending Volunteer - Q&A (East Lothian) [Online]

Join our online Q&A 8th May 11.30am to learn about our Befriending Volunteer role! This is an informal chat with Befriending Coordinator Zanj and will give you the chance to hear about the amazing volunteering opportunity and ask any questions you may have. As a volunteer we are looking for engaging and compassionate individuals with a keen interest in advocating for positive mental health and supporting the community.
The purpose of your role would be to support an individual on a one-to-one basis who may be struggling with isolation, loneliness, lack of social contact and low mental health. This can be done face to face, online or telephone support.

St John Ambulance Virtual free emergency first aid awareness sessions [Online]

Do you want to become more resilient, confident and knowledgeable, to be able to treat another person with basic first aid in your community? In the Emergency First Aid Awareness Session you will learn how to identify if someone is going into cardiac arrest, we will tell you the signs and symptoms to look out for. Our volunteers will also cover the correct way to deliver CPR, including hand position, depth and tempoWe will educate you on how to find and access a defibrillator (do you know where your nearest one is?) Our step by step guide on to use a defibrillator will give you the confidence and understanding how the process works. All St John Ambulance volunteers are happy to answer any questions you may have to expand your knowledge.

Telephone Friendship - Virtual Session

As people get older, some may find they spend more time on their own. This can sometimes feel lonely, boring or make people miss friends or family. Age UK offers free telephone friendship services for older people so they can enjoy chatting with someone over the phone, all from the comfort of your their home. Volunteers play a vital role in this service and this year, we're in great need of additional volunteers. Volunteers deliver this role from the comfort of their homes and receive training and on-going support- but there's lots more to discover about this important role! Find out more about the need for The Telephone Friendship Service, how it operates and they way volunteers help deliver this important service to combat loneliness in our Big Help Out Behind-the-Scenes virtual session. After this session, you'll have the chance to consider applying to volunteer with us!
