A village wide event where people set up with family and friends, bring own picnics or buy bbq’d foods. Village boys brigade to start events by playing God Save Our King. Ice cream, refreshments and stalls with village groups holding games. All with our beautiful church as the back drop. We have the village hall as a continingecy!

Two neighbouring villages, Thorley and Wellow, are joining together for a Coronation Celebration Bring-your-own-Picnic with music by local Unity Stompers Jazz Band, on Wellow Millennium Green. King's Coronation Canopy trees are being planted and people will be asked to choose a tree to commit to look after as a lasting commemoration.
If wet , Wellow Institute will be open for us.

Commemorative Coronation mugs have been purchased with ''Stoke Bardolph'' printed on them, all the children who live in the village (about 22) will be gifted one of the mugs as a keepsafe, we also will be selling mugs at our event. We will be holding a raffle and all sorts of activities for the children and adults including a quiz with prizes for 1st , 2nd & 3rd highest scores.
The event is ''bring your own food to share'' there will be a communal table for all the food. Music will be playing and it will be a really good community get together.

We are planning a buffet lunch, quiz and other activities as well as being able to watch the coronation. It’s a lovely opportunity for the elders in our local community to get together and enjoy the celebrations whilst being supported by our fantastic team of volunteers

Great Aycliffe Town Council are holding a Big Lunch to celebrate the King’s Coronation. Neighbours and communities across the United Kingdom are invited to share food and fun together at Coronation Big Lunches on Sunday 7th May 2023, in a nationwide act of celebration and friendship. A Coronation Big Lunch brings the celebrations to your neighbourhood and is a great way to get to know your community a little better.

So come and join us in the Town Park on Sunday 7th May 2023, between 1pm – 4pm. The event will feature free live entertainment from Aycliffe and Brancepeth Brass Band, Jenna Highfield, The Shine Choir, Scottish Piper and Stilt Walkers.

Other attractions include kiddies fairground rides, sparkle and glitter make-up and a mobile food van, a fee applies to all of these items.

So why not picnic in the park with us and celebrate this momentous occasion!
