Beverley Town Council is organising an afternoon of community-spirited entertainment in Beverley Minster, to mark the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.
Taking place on Bank Holiday Monday 8th May 2023, the event will be an opportunity for community and voluntary groups to promote their activities and encourage new volunteers, all within the spirit of His Majesty’s “Big Help Out” initiative. There will also be performances by a range of local music groups, refreshments and the opportunity to bring and enjoy a picnic within a historic setting.
Starting at 12noon and running until 5pm, everything will take place at Beverley Minster, with the grounds surrounding the church acting as a community picnic venue for the day. Music will be performed inside the Minster and local voluntary groups will have stalls to promote their work. The Minster will also sell tea, coffee, cakes and other refreshments – income from these will cover initial refreshment outlay, with any remainder going to the work of the Minster.
The Town Council wants this to be a true community occasion that is free to access, meaning families, groups and individuals can attend regardless of their financial circumstances. In addition, it will support the King’s hope for celebrations nationwide to focus on the community and volunteering.
The music groups involved include: East Riding Youth Orchestra, Beverley Handbell Ringers, Beverley Ukulele Group, Beverley Male Voice Choir and Beverley Church Lads and Girls Brigade. Timings for each performance will be available on the Town Council’s website nearer the time (www.beverley.gov.uk).
Beverley Town Council hopes that families and members of the public will enjoy watching the performers, engage with community groups, wander in and around the Minster or simply have a picnic at a truly remarkable location. It will be an inclusive, friendly, informal and community-spirited Coronation event, that has the King’s “Big Help Out” at heart.
