To celebrate the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, RAMM has created a display of selected objects from the collection which relate to former kings and queens. We will also be hosting a ‘bunting station’ for the public to create bunting for the celebration.

The display includes Honiton lace, a needlebook made from scraps of Queen Charlotte’s coronation dress in 1761 and souvenirs from the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. There is also an unusual loving cup created for the coronation of Edward VIII and a photograph of Exeter’s celebrations when his brother George VI ultimately took the throne.

To accompany this, the uniform worn by Sir Eric Dancer while serving as the Lord Lieutenant of Devon will be on display from 28 March in the Courtyard. A lord lieutenant is the British monarch’s personal representative in each area of the United Kingdom.

If you’re visiting RAMM between now and 2 May, help us to celebrate the coronation by contributing a bright and colourful pennant to our decorative bunting. Choose your favourite from a collection of beautifully designed flags, or design your own. Colour them in as you choose and leave your contribution with us to be displayed. The bunting will be hung around the museum on the weekend of the Coronation.
