A Monarchy from 1143 to 1910, when it was replaced by a Republic without consultation (Coup d’Etat 5th October 1910), despite only 4% Republican representation in Parliament, Portugal’s Historical Flag has remained present throughout the last 113 years of the Republic, flying proudly on hundreds of thousands of Portuguese households both in Portugal and the overseas Portuguese Diaspora around the World.
To celebrate the Coronation of Their Majesties, King Charles III and Queen Camilla, and to honour the 637-year old Anglo-Portuguese Alliance (Treaty of Windsor 1386, still lawfully valid today, as noted in the UK Government Official Website), Portuguese Diaspora in County Durham will fly the Royal Flag of Portugal alongside the UK Union Jack, on Saturday 6th of May, Sunday 7th of May and Monday 8th of May.
