Hexham Community Centre exists for the benefit of residents in and around the Northumberland town of Hexham. Our primary charitable concerns are with the alleviation of social isolation and loneliness, and the provision of free or low-cost activities for those living in poverty, particularly local families.
The Community Centre hosts a number of community groups, both lead by ourselves and by other organisations using our spaces, as such we are ideally placed to encourage a coming together of our different users and communities to watch and celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.
One of the enduring images and memories of Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation was of communities watching the occasion together, through necessity, crowding into neighbours’ living rooms or heading to local picture houses. Now, although most houses and even many pockets have a screen in them, the Coronation of King Charles III is a timely reminder of the importance of coming together as a community to celebrate and share special moments.
Our Coronation Party is open to everyone and, thanks to funding from Northumberland County Council, is free of charge. We will be screening the BBC coverage of the ceremony and procession, alongside serving a buffet lunch. Doors open from 10.30am until the balcony presentation (presumed to be around 3pm).
