Southend Adult Community College need volunteers to help out at our Westcliff Centre on Monday 8th May between 10.00 and 15.00, located behind Lancaster school, opposite the hospital in Southend.
The campus is dedicated to learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. We want to build and stock some flower/veggie beds (they need to be raised so wheelchair users can access them) so we can teach the learners horticultural qualifications to help them into employment in the future. Plus, if the learners grow vegetables, these can be harvested and cooked as part of the catering qualifications we offer, again leading to employment in the future.
If you know about gardening or building gardening structures and can spare some time on Mon 8th May (or beforehand) please get in touch with us at SACC@southend-adult.ac.uk (title the email ‘Big Help Out’ please) or call us on 01702 445700 so we can add your name to our volunteers list.
We also need your help to buy, scrounge or borrow: plants, equipment, compost, sheeting, seeds, seed propagators, labels, watering cans, tools, gloves, hose pipes, aprons, flower pots, waste bags, pruning shears, a composter, plant frames, slug deterrent, a broom, books about gardening and everything else the learners will need to set up and run a lovely garden in the future.
