Harlow Foodbank is one of many community groups opening our doors to show you how our charity supports Harlow and the surrounding area.
In the past year we have given out over 4,000 food parcels from the Foodbank.
Each one contains food donated by neighbours – mostly when they visit supermarkets.
But when we pick it up it is a great mix of all kinds of foods. This has to be sorted, stored then re-packaged to give to people in need at St Paul’sChurch and the Salvation Army.
Everyone who comes to us gets a nutritionally balanced package of long-life food.
So how do we sort, store, date and package the food?
Book in an hour of your Bank Holiday to discover the answer!
The work happens at our Store House on the edge of Harlow – Housham Hall Farm. It is a beautiful setting… though quite industrial on a normal working day. But as it is a Bank Holiday we have got permission to open our doors to the public – for a limited number between 1 and 6 pm. So, we are using this online mechanism for you to book in!
PLEASE DON’T JUST SHOW UP! We can’t take too many on site.
What are we asking of you?
– Bring a little food to donate – whatever you can afford – to add to the mix (if you can)
– Do half an hour sorting and packing food
– Stay and chat with us – have a barbecue – do a barn dance to our happy country music!
– We’ll also have things for kids to do. It’s a bit of a party too, after all the weekend is a celebration.
– Find out more about our other projects – consider volunteering with MRCT (though you don’t have to)…
– You can also take a walk across the footpath in the fields next to the Store House.
How to book in:
Go to https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-big-help to choose your one hour time slot (you can arrive slightly earlier or hang around afterwards but this is when we expect you to be in the Store House)
