It is at times of national celebration that we really feel the power of music in creating atmosphere and memory. Chiltern Music Academy have devised an incredible opportunity for young children to experience that power in a fun, fabulous event.
Children aged 3-7 are invited to dress up as a King or a Queen, and come to our Coronation Party from 2-5pm on Saturday 29th April 2023 to celebrate the coronation. The day starts at Bucks New University where the children will enjoy craft activities, explore the music and the instruments they will hear later, and learn a Coronation Song, commissioned specially for this event. They will then will parade in their royal robes down the High Street to All Saints’ Parish Church with Bucks dignitaries including His Majesty’s Lord Leiutenant of Buckinghamshire, the High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire, the Chairman of Bucks County Council, and the Mayor of High Wycombe. Family and friends can line the street to clap and cheer as we march by!
At the church, the children will process regally down the aisle as CMA’s massed choirs and orchestra fill the building with the rousing music ‘Zadok the Priest’ by Handel. At the front of the church, the children will join the choirs in singing the Coronation Song accompanied by the orchestra.
After their performance, they will enjoy a drink and a coronation cake before leaving the church to follow the CMA Instrument Trail through Eden Shopping Centre. (The Instrument Trail will be available all week and will be free of charge and is open to children of all ages.)
