Cannington Parish Council, alongside volunteers from Cannington in Bloom have joined forces to organise a party for our community. We have brought together as many community groups as possible (there’s been a great response), including the WI, St Mary’s bell ringers, the Brownies, Bridgwater Rangers, the Panto Society, Cannington C of E Primary School PTA, Brymore Academy, local pubs, farmers and businesses such as Yeo Valley Organic, all of whom will help our village to celebrate the Coronation in style. There is also a very busy group of yarn bombers who are expected to be out in force around the weekend. On the village green, there will be a BYO picnic, live music, Morris dancers, willow crown making, face painting and tattoos, tug o’ war, a duck race in Cannington Brook, a hog roast and BBQ (veggie options), tea/coffee, cakes and ice cream. We will also launch Cannington’s royal-themed scarecrow competition. ‘Right & Royal’ dressing up is encouraged with help from the Panto society.
We will also be encouraging the village to get involved in the ‘Big Help Out’ day, with tempting treats such as free hotdogs and refreshments.
We’re using social media, the local village newsletter and posters to advertise the event and we’re hoping to exceed the success of last year’s Jubilee celebrations, which were enjoyed by all.
