With over 30 business members (all of which are small independent businesses) and over 30 local resident volunteers, the Belsize Village Business Association (BVBA) from 2018 onwards successfully revitalised Belsize Village, a once ailing neighbourhood centre in north London, into the vibrant and clean community hub it is today. The UK’s al fresco dining movement started in Belsize Village after Lockdown 1 in 2020 with the Belsize Village Streatery, which inspired similar schemes across London. Our volunteers manage our communal planters on our village square – Belsize Terrace – and conduct daily litter picks. We work persistently to discourage littering and flytipping which blight so many of our high streets. Our projects focus on building up civil society, civic pride and social cohesion which ensures our revitalisation and associated projects are sustainable and spread joy and goodness. To this end, since 2018, BVBA has built up an active and cohesive community, beautified Belsize Village’s outdoor spaces (including solving historic environmental blights) and is now working to restore our historic buildings – we filled all our once empty shops in the process of this revitalisation.
We will be celebrating HM King Charles’s Coronation on Saturday May 6, 12pm-9:30pm with a live band and communal dining on our village square, Belsize Terrace NW3 5AS. We will especially be thanking all our volunteers who run and staff our projects.
